IPv4 is predicted to run out of available IP addresses this year. As mentioned in a previous post, each time you connect to the Internet, you are doing so through an IP address. Fortunately, a new technology has been developed, IPv6. Although we have a new technology at our fingertips, it doesn’t mean it’s going to be easy to set-up. Every time you connect to the Internet, you get assigned an Internet Protocol number. While we are currently using IPv4 (Internet Protocol version 4), we are running out of numbers. Created in the 1980’s, IPv4 was created with 4 billion available numbers to use, which we have been rapidly nearing due to the number of different devices that enable us to connect online.
